P/GoTh:
quote I stood in the world and found them all drunk, and I did not find any of them thirsty. They came into the world empty, and they seek to leave the world empty. But meanwhile they are drunk. When they shake off their wine, they will open their eyes. unquote
--------------------------------------------------------------- form: Some simplifications in the first sentence, and then an omission of a subsentence which indeed rings like editorializing by a scribe more than like the original statement. Finally there is the "they will open their eyes" in lieu of "they will repent," this is a most interesting edit, for it makes Jesus sound like Jesus and not like Paul.
content: This one is a very straightforward picture of how as sons of the ego, we are all drunk with the values of time, and have no time for Jesus and his ilk as long as we're under the spell of the ego. And indeed the ego's idea of "living on purpose," and a "fulfilling" life is designed to keep Jesus safely outdoors, and us sound asleep. If and only if we shake off our allegiance to the ego system, we will not open our eyes - something that begins with our looking for "another way."
